Description

Known for its outstanding gastronomic, artisanal, natural, and archaeological heritage, Bonorva is one of the largest and most prominent towns in the area.

Its wide historic center unfolds around the main square, where you’ll find the municipal building and the Natività di Maria parish church.

Bonorva is famous across the island for its delicious traditional bread called Zichi, celebrated every year with a dedicated festival. Another local treasure is the mineral water of Santa Lucia, bottled at the nearby plant on the plain of the same name, where a large countryside celebration takes place on May 1st.

Just outside the village is the complex of Sant’Andrea Priu, a group of domus de janas that were later used as Roman hypogea and then as a religious chapel. Nearby are the remains of a Roman settlement with thermal baths, and a little further on, the Parco Mariani natural site.

At the foot of a rocky spur lies the medieval hamlet of Rebeccu, an evocative abandoned village near the well-preserved nuragic spring of Su Lumarzu.

The local agro-pastoral tradition ensures the production of excellent cheeses, while a love for horses is reflected in the spectacular pariglie horse displays during carnival.

Bonorva is also renowned for its craftsmanship, especially the production of tapestries and carpets.

The town is the birthplace of two of the island’s most important vernacular poets, Paulicu Mossa and Pepe Sozu, whose home now houses the "Poetas" museum.
