Description
“Nule, ’idda de manos bonas”—Nule, the village of skilled hands—is how locals proudly describe their community, renowned for its exceptional textile craftsmanship. The rugs of Nule are celebrated far and wide as iconic examples of Sardinian artisan tradition, showcased at the Museum of Local Craftsmanship.
Each rug is woven by hand on vertical looms, with intricate patterns known as a framas, evoking the dancing flames they resemble. The textiles are made with Sardinian sheep’s wool, just like traditional tapestries.
When it comes to tradition, craftsmanship and gastronomy go hand in hand. “Idda de manos bonas” is also the name of a major annual event promoting the region’s artisanal and agro-pastoral excellence. Every April, the historic center opens to visitors eager to taste pecorino cheeses, bread, homemade pasta, and traditional sweets.
Even in ancient times, skilled hands shaped treasures here—like the bronze figurine found at Nuraghe Voes, depicting a bull with a human head, a unique artifact in all of Sardinia.
Among the six churches in the area, the Santa Maria Assunta parish church stands out with its twin bell towers—a distinctive feature of the village skyline.
