Description

While passion for horses is widespread throughout Sardinia, in Pozzomaggiore it is a way of life. The Ardia of San Costantino, held every July, is one of the most iconic expressions of this vibrant community’s deep connection to faith and equestrian tradition. Other ardias are also held in honor of San Giorgio and San Pietro.

It is the only town in Sardinia that boasts a Horse Museum, as well as a prominent equestrian center with a covered riding arena and a modern riding school.

Visitors are welcomed to the village by the Nuraghe Alvu, notable for its rare bichrome decorations, while within the town stands the Nuraghe Cae. Along the Rio Mannu, marking the border with the Planargia region, lies the ancient Roman bridge of Oinu.

The San Giorgio parish church preserves the remains of Blessed Edvige Carboni, making it a destination for pilgrims from all over. Visitors can also enjoy traditional Sardinian cuisine, especially its famous sweets, in the village’s many hospitality venues.

Local artisanal excellence is showcased in loom-woven carpets and tapestries, along with high-quality knife-making and guitar-making.
