Description
In the heart of Goceano, at 650 meters high, stands the Burgos Castle, a medieval fortress that has endured through centuries of history and legends.
Built in 1134 by Gonario I of Torres, the castle stands as a symbol of defense and power with a solid "U" shaped structure and a majestic tower that dominates the landscape.
The Castle Museum, in the center of Burgos, tells the story of these fortifications, providing an overview of the wars and traditions of Sardinia.
The castle is the protagonist of fascinating stories, such as that of the Queen Prunisenda, kidnapped and raped by the judge Guglielmo of Cagliari in 1194, whose soul, according to legend, wanders among the ruins.
In the 13th century, Adelasia of Torres, widow of Barisone, withdrew to the castle, where she died, giving rise to legends of ghosts and apparitions.
Over the centuries, the castle changed hands among several noble families and, under the Aragonese, it gradually lost its importance.
Abandoned in the 15th century, today the Burgos Castle is a fascinating destination for those who want to immerse themselves in the history and legends of Sardinian Middle Ages.
