Description

The eponymous hill, the highest point in the town, has been inhabited since ancient times thanks to its strategic location.

Numerous nuragic artifacts have been found in the area, and in the medieval period the hill became an important place of worship.

According to tradition, the monastery was founded by the Pisan Benedictine monks during the Pisan-Genoese period and included the church dedicated to San Gavino, martyr of Turris.

In 1200, the monastery passed to the Camaldolese, and it is said that on this occasion the bells were stolen by the Pisans.

Before the construction of the shrine dedicated to the fallen of the First World War, there were the cells of the monks on the left side of the church and a well in the center of the complex.

A sad event happened at the beginning of the 19th century, when a pregnant woman fell into the crypt and lost her life.

In 1838, the ruins of the church were used to build the walls of the cemetery.
