Church of San Sebastiano

Nughedu San Nicolò

The church of San Sebastiano, dating back to the seventeenth century, is located on the western outskirts of the town.

Description

During the nineteenth century, it was closed to worship and subsequently transformed into a school.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, a photograph testifies to the collapse of the roof.

Between 1957 and 1963, the parish was temporarily transferred to the Church of San Sebastiano, following the demolition of the other three urban churches, to make way for the construction of the new parish church, consecrated in 1963.

Inside, the simulacrum of San Espedito and a valuable wooden altar from the eighteenth century are preserved, coming from the demolished church of B.V. del Rosario.

The altar, although incomplete, has three lateral niches with the simulacra of the Madonna, Christ, and San Sebastiano, while on top there is a niche with the Madonna with Child. The base of the altar is characterized by two arched openings that lead to a space behind it.
