Description
There are no direct documentary attestations concerning the church, but it is hypothesized that its construction dates back between the XII and XIII centuries, based on the formal analysis of the ruins.
In 1441, a village of Curos (Curus), now abandoned, is mentioned, which could be connected to the church.
Currently, the remains consist of a stretch of wall about 18 meters long in the east-west direction, with some basal courses of the semicircular apse to the west. To the east, after recovery, the foundations of an apse replaced by a facade are visible. The wall is made with squared stones and limestone alternated with volcanic stone.
The analysis suggests that the building had a longitudinal tri-naval plan with opposing apses. This typology, rare in Sardinia, would link the church of Curos to the basilica of San Gavino in Porto Torres. The plant could date back to the second half of the XI century, albeit with uncertainties due to the lack of documentary sources.
