Description
The Church of Santa Caterina, in the historic center of Mores, is famous for its bell tower, the tallest in Sardinia, which reaches 46 meters high and is a masterpiece of Sardinian neoclassicism.
The current building dates back to the 17th century, while the bell tower, designed by architect Salvatore Calvia, a pupil of Alessandro Antonelli, was erected two centuries later.
Walking along Vittorio Emanuele street, the bell tower stands out with its elegant grandeur.
The facade in limestone, divided into two orders, features two coats of arms dated 1643.
The interior, with a single-nave layout and six side chapels, is enriched by granite flooring. The bell tower, in pink trachyte and tufa, is decorated with stucco and pilasters.
The bell chamber is adorned with columns and statues of the Doctors of the Church. A fifth statue rises at the top, above the lantern set on the chamber, representing the Redeemer.
Every year, on November 25th, the feast of Santa Caterina is celebrated, with local events and traditions.
