Description
The church of Nostra Signora di Cabu Abbas is located in the territory of Torralba, about five kilometers from the town center, on a plateau overlooking the Valley of the Nuraghi, towards the nuragic complex of Santu Antine.
Its construction dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries, and is in the Romanesque-Pisan style, made with well-squared limestone blocks and inserts of trachyte.
In the past, the church was the residence of the monks of Montecassino.
The facade is characterized by four pilasters and trefoil arches, with a simple trabeated portal. A distinctive element is the anthropomorphic sculpture, difficult to interpret, which could represent a Paleochristian divinity.
The Sanctuary was restored in 1971 and hosts every year, on September 8, the religious celebration in honor of the Child Mary.
