Description
The Church of Nostra Signora di Coros is located in the countryside site that until the last century preserved the remains of a Benedictine monastery.
In a papal bull of 1175, the title "sancte Marie de Tula" appears to be dependent on the Vallumbrosan abbey of S. Michele di Plaiano.
The building has a single-nave plan with a southeast apse and a wooden roof.
During a recent restoration, the original cladding was completely removed and repaired, but the lower rows of the apse, made of medium-sized trachyte blocks, have been preserved.
Comparing the archive images, it can be seen that the structure dates back to the second half of the 12th century, with laborers active in Montacuto.
The structure is characterized by a shoe-shaped base, corner pilasters, partition pilasters, monolithic arches, and a terminal strip cornice. The facade presents an architraved portal with a discharge arch and a cruciform light. The sides are equipped with lancet single-light windows and there is another portal on the right side.
