Description

The eighteenth-century Sanctuary of Madonna di Seunis is located on a charming panoramic square, which overlooks the valley below and the plain of Bidighinzu.

It is believed that the building has older origins, with an initial structure attributable to a Romanesque church dating back to the XI-XII centuries, which over the centuries had undergone various enlargements and modifications.

The facade is characterized by a rectangular portal surmounted by a bifora with a central column, and concludes with a wavy cornice, flanked by two pilasters at the corners.

The interior, a single nave with an apse, is divided into five bays by full arches that rest on attached pillars, with a diamond tip processing on the third arch.

Every year, on September 8th and 9th, the most important festival of the country is celebrated in honor of the Madonna di Seunis, venerated by the entire population of the Mejlogu.

According to tradition, the image of the Virgin was found by a farmer and today is stored in the main altar of the sanctuary.
