Description
In the 16th century, the Observant Friars Minor left the Loreto church and built a new convent on the outskirts of the city, consecrated in 1575.
The expansion works lasted almost two centuries, with significant interventions between 1691 and 1696, when the convent became a Regional College for the education of Missionaries destined abroad.
The church was restored coinciding with the convent.
After the suppression in 1867, the convent was converted into a barracks and school, while the church was returned to worship in 1936.
The church has a single nave with side chapels and a magnificent wooden altar, started in 1691, decorated in green and gold.
The convent features a cloister with a portico and a 18th-century fresco of Saint Bonaventure.
In 1982 it was recovered as the San Francesco Cultural Center.
