Description

The parish church of San Giovanni Battista is located in the center of the town and belongs to the Diocese of Alghero.

Vittorio Angius described it in the 19th century, citing the presence of a rector and two priests.

The building has undergone modifications since the 16th century, altering its original appearance.

It has a single nave with side chapels and a rectangular presbytery, while the octagonal bell tower, on a square base, is distinguished by its Iberian Gothic style, with protruding cornices and precisely cut ashlars.

The facade recalls the facade of the Santuario di Nostra Signora di Bonu Ighinu, with superimposed fluted pilasters and a round arch portal. The interior is punctuated by transverse arches and chapels with polychrome wooden altars.

In the presbytery stands out a retablo from the 17th-18th century, while the paintings by Francesco Massa and the 18th-century simulacra enrich the artistic heritage of the church.
