Description

The church of Sant'Antonio is located on the outskirts of the town and still raises several questions today.

Lacking certain documentary sources, it is dated to the 13th century based on its formal characteristics.

According to the scholar Roberto Coroneo, it could have been a building outside the walls of the fortified boundary of the Doria castle.

The original structure was a single nave with an oriented apse, built with medium-sized limestone blocks.

In the rear part, sturdy corbels that supported the arches of the apse, now disappeared, are visible.

In the non-plastered sections, squared courses are noticeable on the edges of the facade, where there is a pointed arch portal topped by a rose window and a bell gable.

Single-lancet windows open on the sides and in the center of the apse.

There remains doubt about the original function of the church, but the discovery of an engraving depicting a "pilgrim's shoe" in a single-lancet window suggests the possible passage of pilgrims in the medieval period.
