Description
The Church of Santa Croce is located in the historic center of Pozzomaggiore and is a religious building of seventeenth-century origin, characterized by a simple and essential structure.
The building has a plan with a single nave covered by wooden trusses, a type typical of the small churches of Sardinia.
The facade, sober and elegant, is made of local stone blocks and culminates with a tympanum. The entrance portal, framed by a simple cornice, is surmounted by an oculus that guarantees the natural lighting of the interior.
Inside, there is an important wooden crucifix, an element of great popular devotion, and some baroque style decorations that embellish the main altar.
The church is traditionally linked to the Confraternity of Santa Croce, which organizes rites and celebrations, including the solemn Good Friday procession.
