Description

The villa of Padria, which houses evidence of an ancient and intense anthropization, became part of the de Ferrera family after the Aragonese conquest of 1436 and remained in their hands until the middle of the 16th century, when it was annexed to the barony of Bonvehì.

In 1520 the works were completed for the construction of the parish church dedicated to Saint Julia, under the commission of Bernardino de Ferrera, baron of Bonvehì, and the bishop of Bosa, Pietro de Sena.

The coats of arms of the commissioners are visible in the church's prospectus and triumphal arch.

The building, which stands on a multi-layered site of worship dating back to the late antique, Byzantine, and medieval periods, has a longitudinal plan with lateral chapels and a pentagonal chancel.

The facade, made with squared stones, is reinforced by oblique buttresses with a polygonal plan. A cornice decorated with rosettes and human faces divides the space into two registers.

The entrance portal, decorated with plant motifs and lilies, is flanked by pinnacles and has two gargoyles resembling a lion and anthropomorphic figures.

The interior is divided into five bays, with nine side chapels and a pentagonal chancel. The cross-vaulted radial ceiling culminates in a gem with the carved effigy of Saint Julia. Among the internal decorations stand out angelic figures, saints, and Christ, including those of Saint Constantine, Saint Julia, and Saint Francis.
