Description
The church of Santa Maria Iscalas is located in the countryside of Bonnanaro, just outside the village. It is a place of worship of great charm, immersed in a landscape that is suggestive and linked to centuries of history and devotion.
Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but the current building was constructed in 1682, after the collapse of a previous church built in 1605 at the initiative of the noble Idora de Canpu. Some architectural details, such as an ancient inscription on the side door, bear witness to these historical events.
The church has a simple but elegant appearance: a stone structure with a single nave, wooden covering and an apse vaulted barrel. The facade is enhanced by a decorated portal and a window with rosettes, which brings light inside.
