Description

Located about six kilometers from the inhabited center, it is an ancient place of worship dating back to the second half of the 12th century.

It represents a significant example of Sardinian Romanesque rural architecture.

The building, with its apse facing East, features a single lancet window with a double jamb and a sloping facade ending with a bell gable.

In place of the original double lancet window or oculus, there is a rectangular window.

The portal, with a lintel resting on decorated capitals, is topped by a relieving arch, and to the right of the portal, an inscription dated 1260 is engraved, although the facade dates back to the 12th century.

Originally dedicated to Santa Maria di Seve, the church was associated with a Vallombrosian monastery dependent on San Michele di Salvenero. In the 15th century, the attached hermitage was elevated to an abbey.
