Description

In the center of Thiesi is the splendid parish church of Santa Vittoria, built at the beginning of the sixteenth century in Aragonese Gothic style.

The church was probably dedicated to the Saint to celebrate the victory of the Spanish over the Sardinians, commissioned by the Manca family after obtaining the fief.

The facade, characterized by a pointed shape, is closed between the buttress and the square-based bell tower. A thin wavy vine decorates the cornice, while the portal, with a full-round arch, is adorned with foliage and large flowers. Above, a carved lintel with niches depicts Christ and various saints, including the Virgin and Saint James. The large central rose window features a delicate fretwork of circles and petals.

The interior alternates between Renaissance and Gothic styles, with chapels featuring full-round arches and octagonal domes. In the presbytery there is a large altarpiece depicting Santa Vittoria, painted by Giovan Battista Orta from Taranto.
