Description
The Nuragic Sacellum of Cuccuru Mudeju is one of the most significant archaeological sites of the Nuragic Sardinia. Located on a hill overlooking the valley crossed by the Rio Iscias de Trigu, the complex includes a sacred well and several circular structures, probably used for religious rituals.
During the excavations carried out in 2021, a rare, intact bronze dating back to about 3,000 years ago was found, depicting a warrior with a horned helmet, short skirt, and long braids. The warrior holds a dagger to his chest and a shield in his left hand, providing valuable information about the material culture of the period.
Another notable find is a bovine head made of stone, probably part of a larger sculpture, suggesting the importance of the bull in Nuragic religiosity.
