Description
The Grixoni Fountain is named after Don Giuseppe Grixoni, who funded its restoration between 1881 and 1882. The original structure dates back to 1594 and was built by Don Juan de Castelvì, the feudal lord of Monte Acuto, whose family coat of arms can be seen on the back of the monument.
The fountain, in its current form, is the work of architect Giovanni Pietrasanta. It is entirely covered in marble and features six half-columns framing a niche with the bust of Grixoni.
Along the facade there are six water mouths, decorated with bronze lion's heads. At the ends of the monument stand two iron columns, supporting statues of seated lions.
The fountain is located in the historical center of Ozieri, in Piazza Carlo Alberto, at the end of Via Vittorio Emanuele III.
Originally, in 1594, it was a work with eight mouths, fed by a subterranean spring.
The current monument has become a symbol of the city, combining marble and granite in a harmonious composition.
