Description
The Pozzomaggiore Horse Museum is housed in the building of the former Augustinian convent, which was also used as a cavalry station in the past. The entire museum complex includes the ground floor, the first floor, the courtyard and the former stables.
Through a thematic journey, the museum offers a historical, anthropological and ethnographic view of the figure of the horse, a central element in the culture of Pozzomaggiore. The exhibition rooms delve into various aspects, including the role of the horse in work, sport, and in female tradition linked to the weaving of equestrian accessories, such as saddle pads, saddlebags, and necklaces.
Two rooms are dedicated to Saint George, the patron saint of Pozzomaggiore and protector of the knights, and to Saint Constantine. Both saints are protagonists of the local religious celebrations, including the traditional ardie.
The museum also houses the Gustavo Pesarin Collection, resulting from the donations of the architect originally from Pozzomaggiore. The collection includes over 200 artifacts among architectural fragments, prints, drawings and ceramics related to the horse theme. Among the valuable pieces, there are architectural elements from the XVII-XVIII century, made by local stonemasons.
