Description
The Coghinas Lake is an artificial basin created in 1927 by damming the homonymous river at the Muzzone narrows, formed by the gorges of Limbara. The dam is 185 meters long and 58 meters high.
The lake has a capacity of 254 million cubic meters of water, which allows the operation of the hydroelectric power station built during the Fascist era.
The surrounding natural environment is characterized by Mediterranean scrub, holm oak forests and cork oak groves. Despite being an artificial reservoir, like the vast majority of Sardinian lakes, there are numerous species of birds and aquatic fauna.
On the shores of the lake on the Tula side, there are some accommodation facilities, including a bar, a hostel, a sailing center, and a boat rental point.
In its waters, it is possible to fish for the famous Sardinian eel, trout perch, royal perch, sunfish, catfish, carps, and Louisiana crayfish.
