Description
The Archaeological Museum of Ozieri, originally housed in the former convent of San Francesco, has been located since 2003 in the former convent of the Poor Clares, a restored eighteenth-century structure now serving as a multipurpose cultural center.
Four rooms of the museum host a vast collection of artifacts from the territory of Ozieri.
The prehistoric section preserves objects from the cave of San Michele, including the decorated pyxis and idols of the Mother Goddess.
The nuragic section exhibits artifacts from the Bronze and Iron Ages, including a Cypriot copper ox-hide ingot.
In the Roman section, women's burial furnishings and objects related to trade and worship are on display.
Among the medieval exhibits, objects from Bisarcio stand out.
On the upper floor, there is a numismatic collection ranging from Greek and Punic coins to those of the Savoy.
The museum also includes a lapidary collection in the parade square.
