Description
Located on the border between the territories of Ittireddu and Mores, the bridge was originally built over the Riu Mannu, whose course has over time shifted north-west.
Originally designed with three arches and a length of 18 meters, today it only preserves two, of different sizes: a larger one, with a lowered arch, and a smaller one, with a full arch.
A close analysis reveals fascinating construction details. At the base of the intrados, one can still see the holes used to house the wooden beams of the centering, essential for the assembly of the arches. The pillars, mainly made of basalt, feature two rows of tuff, while at the base the remains of the breakwater rostrums are visible, designed to resist the force of the water.
Today, the bridge appears without crowning and parapets, exposing the internal structure in opus caementicium, a Roman construction technique that mixes lime, pozzolana and rubble.
