Description

The legend of the princess Donoria and her curse is one of the most fascinating stories tied to this village. It is said that, before being exiled from the country, King Beccu's daughter cast a curse: "May Rebeccu never exceed thirty houses", a fate that seems to have come true with the slow decline and depopulation of the village.

Rebeccu, a fraction of the municipality of Bonorva, is dominating the plain of Santa Lucia.

The village has Roman roots and was a medieval capital of the Curatoria of Costaval in the Giudicato of Torres.

In the 13th century, Rebeccu was involved in struggles against the Aragonese and suffered damage during the wars of the 14th century. After the collapse of the Giudicato of Arborea, its decline began, worsened by pestilences and famines. In 1795, the inhabitants rose up against the feudal lords.

In 1928, Rebeccu lost its independence and became a fraction of the municipality of Bonorva, with a population reduced to just over 100 inhabitants.

Today, Rebeccu is virtually uninhabited, but the narrow alleys and stone houses make this village an ideal destination for those who love to discover the local history and traditions.
