Description
The Sacred Spring of Su Lumarzu, located a short distance from the abandoned medieval village of Rebeccu, is a fascinating example of Nuragic architecture.
Entrance to the spring is through a rectangular atrium paved with basalt blocks, which hosts stone seats on the sides, providing a space for rest and contemplation.
Within, a trapezoidal opening leads to the circular chamber, where water springs from a monolithic basin.
The roof is a tholos, a type of vault typical of Nuragic structures, topped by a large slab with a Latin cross engraved, added later in the Christian era.
Discovered at the beginning of the 20th century, the spring has been the subject of excavations that have unearthed Nuragic ceramics and coins dating back to the 4th century AD, suggesting that the site was also used in late antiquity.
