Description

The Civic Museum of Ittireddu, inaugurated in 1984, was in Sardinia one of the first exhibit examples closely related to the concept of "archaeology of the territory", playing a "historic" role in a trend that has been followed in the subsequent decades by other municipalities.

As part of accreditation process in 2014, the structure and layout of the Museum have been revisited and renewed with the display of findings from subsequent excavations, while explanatory materials have been developed in light of recent discoveries and acquisitions. It now hosts an internet-café and a specific library about Sardinian archeology. Two rooms are dedicated to temporary archaeological exhibitions.

The guiding theme of the set-up stems from the assumption that Ittireddu is a "Museum Territory", therefore highlighting the close relationship between sites and finds not only in the bilingual panels, but also by means of interactive multimedia guides on mobile devices, through which it is possible to access additional information about the discovery sites of the most significant findings.

In the six rooms, visitors embark on a diachronic journey, from prehistoric times to the medieval age, particularly focusing on the Nuraghe Funtana to which a significant part of the exhibition is dedicated, also featuring a context reconstruction.
