Economy

In this region, traditional farming and craftsmanship blend with rural tourism. Taste local specialties like pecorino and wines, and explore unique handmade creations. It's an authentic journey through nature, culture, and warm hospitality.

Female entrepreneurship

It's great to point out how women in these communities are really taking the lead in starting new activities and initiatives. You can see this in the growing success of agritourism, bed and breakfasts, educational farms, and in the fact that many of the groups and cooperatives managing cultural heritage are mostly run by women.

Dairy production

Cheese is the star here—this area is one of Sardinia’s top dairy regions.

The town of Thiesi, in particular, is home to a cheese-making “district” with many dairies exporting their products all over the world.

Grape varieties

The tradition of winemaking is also strong, thanks to native grape varieties like Cannonau, Pascale, Vermentino, and the rare Arvesiniadu from Goceano.

Bread and sweets

Baking and sweets are a big part of everyday life.

Sardinian pastries are made with local ingredients like honey, almonds, walnuts, cheese, milk, flour, and sapa (cooked grape must).

Don’t miss the panadas from Tula and Thiesi!

Craftsmanship

The area is full of talented artisans working with leather, textiles, wood, ceramics, and even traditional knife-making. Recently, instrument-making has taken root in Pattada.

Most workshops are small, family-run businesses keeping ancient skills alive.

Among the most cherished crafts: embroidery, basket weaving, and weaving—especially the rugs from Nule, the tapestries from Bonorva, the rugs of Villanova Monteleone, and the ornate horse tack from Bono.
