Description
Everything is ready in Borutta (SS) for the tenth edition of the Bastida di Sorres. On October 14-15-16, the small town of Meilogu will once again, after two years of suspension, reenact the historic medieval battle of 1334 between the Doria and the Aragonese. Set in the hill of San Pietro di Sorres, for the tenth anniversary over 200 performers, 6 medieval reenactment groups, falconers, entertainers, and equestrian centers will arrive in the plain of the Benedictine Monastery. The hot air balloon flight and the Ottobrata – a food and wine path – are new features that the municipal administration, led by Silvano Arru, will propose to enrich this edition.
The three-day event will feature museum visits, guided nature trails, and events that will animate the medieval camp, which will be set up with tents, a trebuchet, a catapult, a blacksmith's forge, field kitchens, and exhibitions of armor and medieval weapons. Scenes of battle, life, and work from the medieval period will be recreated: from metalworking to the production of ceramics and textiles, with artistic workshops from dyers and alchemists.
The entertainers with carts, the archery and crossbow competition, the equestrian joust, medieval dances, fakir acts, tightrope walkers, and the art of falconry will also color the hectares of garden surrounding the basilica dedicated to San Pietro di Sorres.
The medieval camp will host 6 reenactment groups: the Memoria Milites, Knights of the Ancient Inn, and the Hall of Arms Le Quattro Porte di Cagliari; the Medieval Archers of Sanluri; Sagittari Vagantes and the Compagnia d’Arme Castellani de Gioiosa Guardia di Iglesias.
After the important Vestizione dei Cavalieri, these six groups will reenact on Saturday at 6 PM and Sunday at 12 PM, the battle of 1334 between the Doria and the Aragonese. Men and women will recount the events as ancient texts, historical documents, and legends have brought them down to today.
Additionally, in the evening from 7:30 PM, humans and animals will blend together to create a show with a suggestive and surreal atmosphere: Animal fire, a fire dance show and falconry curated by acrobat and juggler Faisca de Luz and falconer Alessandro Vicini.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday, the riding school will be open with equestrian activities and workshops for adults and children, organized by the Centro Equestre Sardo Cheyenne; in the square of the Basilica, the blacksmith will demonstrate the practice of iron forging and horseshoeing.
A group of educators, in the area surrounding the apse, will carry out dedicated activities for children, including the cylinder game, the equestrian carousel, the goose game, ancient wooden games, and medieval photomontages.
