The Festa di Nostra Signora di Bonu Ighinu is a heartfelt celebration that takes place at the namesake rural sanctuary. This festival combines religious and folkloric elements.
The sanctuary of Our Lady of Bonu Ighinu, dedicated to the Sorrowful Mother, is located in an isolated and wild area of Mara, surrounded by mountainous reliefs.
Its monumental facade in Baroque style, adorned with carved columns and preceded by a staircase, makes it one of the most fascinating places of worship in Sardinia.
The feast of Our Lady of Bonu Ighinu is celebrated in mid-September.
According to legend, the Madonna appeared in this place to ask the inhabitants of Mara and the nearby villages to re-establish the "bonu ighinau", that is, good neighborliness, putting an end to conflicts. Hence the name of the sanctuary, which in Sardinian means "good neighbor".
